As its still early, no one is really sure where the problem lies, but one possible 'weak link' is the GameSpy network. One workaround that seems to have more success, is to create a single player game, and then invite players to your game that way.

The ports that are recommended to be forwarded are (honestly, who has to forward ports for games these days?):

7777 (TCP/UDP)
28900 (TCP)
27900 (UDP)
28910 (TCP)
6500 (UDP) (GameSpy)
